Banking
You will need to open a bank account during your stay and studies here. For example, you may need to pay your rent by bank transfer or you may need bank account statements to provide evidence of your finances for immigration purposes.
The bank you choose can advise you on the different types of accounts it can offer, direct debits, how long it takes to transfer money to other bank accounts (inside or outside Hungary) and more.
Please note that Trouble Shooters office cannot recommend a particular bank but there are a number of banks located around the university as well as in Debrecen city centre. For example:

Depending on your needs, you can choose from different packages. Please note that you need to create a contract with the service providers and you can only enter into a contract in person at the selected store as they will need to check your documents.

Shopping
Shops and grocery stores are usually open from Monday to Friday, bigger supermarkets are open all week, mainly until 20:00. Some of the bigger ones are Tesco, Auchan, Spar, Aldi, Lidl.
There are two shopping malls in Debrecen, Fórum and Debrecen Pláza, both of them located close to the city center. You can find more information on their websites:

In case you purchase goods for higher than a certain price in supermarkets and you want to pay by credit card they might ask you to show your ID/passport. In any case, it is useful to have either of these documents with you.
Pharmacies are open on weekdays usually from 8:00 to 16:00. There are some pharmacies that are open longer: Benu Gyógyszertár Fórum until 20:00 (Adress: Csapó u. 30) and Nap Patika until 21:00 (Adress: Hatvan u. 1). There is a pharmacy open 24/7 in town: Benu Gyógyszertár Debrecen (Adress: Csapó u. 1). The address of the pharmacy that is open (on duty) is always posted on the door of all the other pharmacies.
You can find the pharmacy on campus at the main entrance of the Clinical Center. (Address: Nagyerdei krt. 98.)
Post offices are usually open from Monday to Friday, from 08:00 to 16:00. Apart from sending letters and packages, post offices are the places where you can pay your bills with yellow cheques as well.
There are post offices on campus as well, at the main building of the University (Address: Egyetem tér 1.) and at the entrance of the Clinical Center (Address: Nagyerdei körút 98.). Visit the website of the Hungarian Post (Magyar Posta) for more information on post office services.

DEMEK Mental Health Counselling for International Students
As a student of the University of Debrecen you have the possibility to receive mental health support that is provided by mental health professionals at the University’s Mental Health Centre.
Their service includes 1+4 sessions. The very first meeting is for the definition of the problem why you are searching for help and for introduction. After that, 4 sessions are dedicated to deal with the defined problem itself. They can give support in the following topics: family and relationship problems, conflictual situations, adaptation difficulties in new situations.

International Students Union - Debrecen created a committee that deals with the concept of mental health, to raise awareness through organizing activities, group studies, weekly tips and to create a platform in which they show the students that talking openly about their mental health is not attention seeking.
